April 29, 2026
- Your RV Will Break It's not a matter of if, but when. Budget for repairs and be prepared to be handy. Youtube is your best friend! 2. Homeschooling on the Road Is Magical Every national park is a classroom. Every state line is a geography lesson. Don't miss the opportunities out the window. There are many programs available for homeschool families you just have to find the ones that fit your lifestyle 3. You'll Miss Your Community But you'll build a new one — one that spans the entire country. Get outside and look for campground opportunities and activities to meet others. You are far more likely to meet people in more resort style campgrounds than state parks or other boondock locations. Be open to being uncomfortable and extending yourself to neighbors and sitting at the campground playground or pool. We have found community in the sport of BMX, when we travel the country we add wonderful new people and frequently find familiar faces. We plan our long stops near local tracks and use the USABMX website to locate their practice and race times. This helps our kid not only get exercise but find frineds iwith similar interests and age groups. This also works for skateparks and museum days. 4. Meal Planning Is Everything Small kitchens demand big planning. Choose multipurpose appliances and utensils! See our amazon list for great small tools we use frequently that also help to save space and weight in our camper. We are frequently cleaning the pantry and fridge because unlike a home temperatures fluctuate in the camper and there just isn't a place for things no one will use. 5. Boondocking Changes Everything Free camping opened up a whole new world for us. I cried the first time we tried using off grid camping. It felt confusing and I spent nights waiting for someone to come knocking on the door. Researching your destinations, what to bring and being aware of things like hail, fire season and predators will make your stays much more fun!
